Howard Mitchell (59)

Director (Healthlands Fitness Club)

I recently worked with Stephen Brodie at Healthlands Fitness Club in Bath Street, Glasgow.

Stephen is the most professional Personal Trainer specialising in various forms of Sports Injury, and is acknowledged by his peers to have superior knowledge and application.

His approach, attitude, energy and enthusiasm in relation to the levels of Customer Service Delivery are superior, and the results achieved by his clients were meaningful.

Stephen gained the respect of the total management team and staff because of his professionalism, and if i were selecting a superbowl team, Stephen would be my Quarterback.

I first met Stephen Brodie just over 10 years ago, at a time when I was generally unhappy with my weight, health and physical appearance. I had been using a gym for about a year, but had made little or no change.

So I began an intense week by week programme of cardio vascular/weight training with him. I won’t pretend it was easy, as it shouldn’t be, but I soon realised the potential he saw in me to better myself. I became more keen and enthusiastic to the point of anxious anticipation to begin each session when they came around. My session quickly began to show the type of results I wasn’t able to achieve alone, or thought possible.

But this isn’t simply about turning up at a gym and training. I found our one-to-one talks about potential and strengths, as well as weaknesses within myself, a catalyst in the development of a better person, not only physically, but also mentally and not just restricted to time spent in a gym, but life in general.

With any training time, short or long, aches and pains and injuries will occur. He has been able to successfully overcome with his professional sports injuries/massage therapy sessions. Stephens' knowledge about the human physique is vast and still today there are still points and facts that he’ll cover with me. Provided that you focus on his advice, it will help you through any obstacles during training.

Perhaps the single most important part for all this for me, is that I made a close and best friend for life, it has not been limited to time spent in a gym, but in my day to day life. I would consider this to be as equally important as the significant change and strengths I have developed in health and appearance in my life.

Stephen has been successfully treating my various sports and posture related aches for a number of years. He has an extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology which leads to accurate diagnosis and treatment.

He has a very professional manner and takes a holistic approach to his clients.

I have recommended him to friends and colleagues who have also been very satisfied with his treatment. I would have no hesitation in continuing to recommend him.

I have known Stephen for almost 15 years. He was recommended to me by another PT due to what I thought was a shoulder training injury. It turned out to be a frozen shoulder (a complication of Type 2 Diabetes) leaving my shoulder and shoulder blade completely out of alignment. I was in a significant degree of constant pain and discomfort.

I worked very closely with Stephen due to his expertise in sports massage therapy. For a solid month, 3 times per week, he massaged and manipulated my shoulder, which although this was an uncomfortable process, the lasting effects have been incredible.

After this first month he incorporated gentle exercise to strengthen and support both shoulders and to bring them back into proper alignment. For almost 4 years he pushed me and made me work harder, incorporating diet and exercise programmes. He is a tough cookie and will bring out the best in you.

I have subsequently moved abroad to live and work and currently reside in Abu Dhabi but always hook up with Stephen for personal training and any necessary therapy when I'm back in Glasgow on annual leave (such is his talent!)

Stephen has become a solid friend and confidant and I am very proud and honoured to endorse his incredible services.

On finishing medication prescribed by my GP at 27, I understood that recurrent back pain (through wear & tear) was going to bother me for the rest of my life and there was nothing I could do about it.

My fiancé, who had received personal training from Stephen, organised an appointment for him to give me a massage in my home as he thought he could help me, (I didn't, my doctor would have told me if there was anything else that could have been done surely?). However, a massage would be nice I thought. After my therapy session, he advised to stretch daily and train to strengthen my back. With an open mind I took the advice and booked a PT session. I have never taken pain relief for my back since and that one treatment was sufficient.

Whilst strengthening my back, I also wanted to look good for my wedding and 3 months later, under Stephen's expert guidance, I was in the best shape I have ever been in. I stopped training and went on to have 2 pregnancies within 2 years. As a result of pregnancy, bad diet, lack of exercise and no stretching, I was in terrible shape and my back pain had came back and was gradually getting worse. I knew to contact Stephen as I knew I could do more harm than good training myself.

In my opinion what sets Stephen apart from other PT's is his years of experience, in depth knowledge of nutrition, physiology & anatomy. During the initial consultation he acknowledges your strengths and weaknesses and advises accordingly. He works in conjunction with you and takes into account all factors of your lifestyle. He makes you aware the impact these have with an aim to improving your overall health and well-being. He takes a non judgemental and professional approach.

I go to my Doctors for medication, Dentist for oral health and Stevie for physical health.

I was introduced to Stephen via a mutual friend and am so glad we met.

I would consider myself a fit person and go to the gym regularly but I wanted to get into better shape and bulk up.   I particularly wanted to increase my size in the upper body and arms.

After a consultation, I was guided through a new programme of exercises, some of which I would never have thought of and we discussed my dietary habits.   From this initial conversation, my whole training regime changed and with regular sessions with Stephen, I can see definite progress to my goals.

I must also say that although it can be hard going at times, the drive, determination and focus Stephen has with me pushes me harder.  It is also a lot of fun.

To recommend Stephen and the Rejuvenating way, would be an understatement.  There wouldn't be enough stars to rate this guy.

Solicitor

Approximately 10 years ago I decided to find a personal trainer. I went into several fitness shops in Glasgow and in each shop I was given the name Stephen Brodie.

My first session with Stephen did not involve any physical activity it was an opportunity for us to get to know each other, for Stephen to find out what I wanted from the training sessions and the best way to achieve it.

Do not expect someone in their twenties that has just finished a college course, as you would find in every high street gym. Expect someone that has dedicated their life to personal training, nutrition, human anatomy and movement, someone that has spent thousands of hours researching and perfecting their chosen field.

Only upon reflection can I see that my fitness improved immensely with Stephen.

From someone that played football for an hour, with frequent breaks to catch my breath to a person that could train with Stephen for 90minutes and then immediately an hour of football.

As a solicitor I am very selective as to the people I trust. Stephen's character is without question.

He quickly developed from being my personal trainer to a close trusted friend.

I was looking to improve my physique by increasing muscle size, strength and definition.  I was told that Stephen Brodie was the man to see from a friend who trains in the gym he operates from.

I only had the opportunity to train with him for 6 months as I had changed job and moved to another city but his knowledge and practical skill were second to none and I very quickly developed the physicality and appearance I had always wanted.

I always catch up with him for a training session when I am back in Glasgow.  Stephen is a gifted, conscientious  personal trainer and therapist that produces first class results in a professional manner.  I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Twelve years ago, I was suffering from severe back pain and no matter what was done to ease the pain nothing worked. After many visits to various physios and costly visits to Jan de Fries, nobody was able to help.

At that time, I was running a Take Away food bar in Glasgow and was supplying the local gym with rolls and sandwiches which they offered for sale in the cafeteria. One morning after my delivery had been made, I was having a chat with one of the resident instructors. During our conversation, I told him about my back trouble and the amount I had spent on various remedies to try and ease the pain. After I explained my problem , he told me he could fix it. And he did.

Stephen Brodie turned out to be a master of his art, a superb instructor and above all a totally genuine person in every way. If you require his services as either a personal trainer or a therapist, you will not find better.

Patient: Rose Johnston (69)

I am writing this testimonial for Stephen on behalf of my sister Rose Johnston who suffered a left sided stroke 6yrs ago, aged 63yrs. When Rose first had her stroke, she was taken to the Western Infirmary General. Here she had mostly assessments to grade the damage done by the stroke.

Rose was unable to walk, swallow and talk but understood most of what was being said to her. After spending 2 weeks of general recovery and assessments, Rose was transferred to Drumchapel Hospital (Stroke Unit) for rehabilitation, with the view that she would be transferred to the Southern General Hospital Rehiblation Unit as soon as a bed became available.

After 2 weeks Rose was transferred to the SGH Rehabilitation Unit. Rose’s stay lasted over 3 months and during that time she received intensive physio in the gym twice a day, 5 days a week and daily occupational therapy and speech therapy. When Rose was discharged home, she could walk a little with the aid of a tripod but required a wheelchair for longer distance. There was very little movement of the Right hand (only small finger movements). After 6 to 8 weeks from discharge, physio and occupational therapy were withdrawn although speech therapy continued on and off for sometime after that.

Rose felt she would like to see if she could make further progress with more professional help.

We were introduced to Stephen through a neighbour who’s daughter and husband had been seeing him on a weekly basis for sports therapy for many years.

A meeting was set up for Rose and Stephen to meet and see if Stephen could help Rose progress, and for Rose to see if she felt comfortable with Stephen. They got on very well and it was decided that Stephen would come on home visits once or twice a week.

Most of the focus was on strengthening Rose’s leg, shoulder and arm and help to keep the flexibility in both the leg and particularly the arm. As Rose was unable to read instructions, Stephen produced a list of exercises in picture form. On his visits Stephen would work on Rose’s strength and flexibility and go over Rose’s exercises to reinforce the method and make sure she was performing them correctly.

Rose saw great improvement, not only in her strength in both the shoulder and leg, but also in the flexibility of her shoulder and arm. Rose now walks without a stick and no longer uses the wheelchair.

Stephen approached his work with a professional attitude and great enthusiasm. He was also a great mental and encouraging support. Rose looked forward to his visits and was encouraged to achieve to the best of her ability. I would, without question, recommend Stephen to anyone. Thank you Stephen for all you have done for Rose. You’re a tonic.

I have been receiving weekly massages from Stephen for over ten years. In that time he has helped me manage and recover from several injuries allowing me to complete marathons, half marathons and 10Ks.

Stephen not only works wonders in relation to my physical well being; he also exudes enthusiasm and humour to such an extent that after our sessions I feel able mentally to face any challenge. He is reliable and is always there for you in good times and bad. I would have no hesitation in recommending Stephen.

Bill Mitchell (59)

Managing Director

I have very clear personal objectives in relation to fitness, unlike many people for whom “keeping fit” is sufficient in itself, my goals are very sports specific, achieving and maintaining a level of fitness that enables me to participate competitively.

I have worked with Stephen for a number of years, and he not only understands my requirements but actively works with me, challenging me and pushing me when necessary.

He has the professional knowledge I need, the man management skills to motivate me, and importantly, the confidence to tell me when I need to change my behaviour.

In short, he is professional, knowledgeable and has integrity.

In addition, his ability as a sports therapist has kept me physically able to compete.  In many years in high level sport I have worked with a number of talented coaches, and I can honestly say that Stephen ranks up there with the very best.

I began training with Stephen over 7 years ago. When I started I was very over weight and very unfit. With his help, I have managed to lose over 12 stones in weight and become a lot more active and healthy, allowing me to enjoy life more.

I very quickly became friends with Stephen. He is a kind person who goes out of his way to make sure that he does everything he can to help you reach your goal. He does not see being a personal trainer as simply a job. He sees it as a way of life. This I believe sets him apart from other personal trainers.

Without his help and expertise over the years I do not believe I would be in as good health as I am today. He has been there with me every step of the way from a few words of encouragement to a boot up the backside when needed.

Stephen has been into sport and fitness most of his life and has been a personal trainer for a number of years. This has lead to him having an incredible wealth of knowledge not only about working out and fitness, but also about healthy living and nutrition.

When you work out with him the depth of his knowledge and the passion he has for what he does quickly becomes apparent. He tailors each workout session to the situation at hand, always maintaining a fine balance between what we want to achieve and what we can achieve. He continues even after all these years to surprise me with new workout routines being added to our sessions.

Along with being an excellent personal trainer, he is also a first rate therapist. After years of being over weight and unfit I have suffered my fair share of aches and pains over the past few years. Using his considerable knowledge of various massage and therapy techniques he has always been able to work his magic and get me back to full fitness as quickly as possible.
